Assignment Overview
Students are required to read and review 2 approved journal articles relevant to Personality Theory for this course. You may choose an article from either the Theories of Personality Reader or the History and Systems Reader. You may also choose your own article relevant to Personality Theory outside of the reader; however, these articles must be approved by the professor. Articles cannot be reviewed by more than one student, so you must post your articles on Scholar 360 as a reply to the Journal Articles Sign-Up post. You are encouraged to post your articles as soon as you decide to review it and may do so before you read the article.
Depending upon class size, you will either need to present on your one article in class and one on Scholar 360, or both on Scholar 360 (only for larger classes). Below are the guidelines for each type of presentation followed by a summary of what should be included in both types of presentations:
Scholar 360 Presentation
When presenting on Scholar 360, your overview should be 4-6 paragraphs in length. Please be sure to proof read and spell check your presentation before posting it. General writing skills, including spelling, grammar, and organization, is taken into account in grading this assignment. Your post should include complete reference information at the end of the post.
In Class Presentation
You presentation should be 5-7 minutes (no longer!) and intended to stimulate some discussion in class. It is a good idea to include some questions or thought provoking comments at the end of your presentation. You should bring a printed outline or summary of your presentation for the class and instructor; this can be outline form (i.e., bullet points). No power points are needed for this presentation.
Requirements for Both Styles of Presentations:
- You should have one article ready to present in class by week 5 (or posted on Scholar 360 in large classes if both presentations are to be posted). Your second presentation should be posted on Scholar 360 no later than week 7.
- You presentation must include all three of the following:
- Brief summary of the article.
- Relevance for clinical practice.
- Your personal critique. This should be based upon your thoughts and reactions, which will extend beyond the original content of the article. Although this may include discussion of limitations or problems, a critique is not necessarily critical in this sense. Instead, it reflects that you are thinking critically about the value and applicability of the article. For example, your critique could focus on why this article has a lot to offer the field of psychology.
- Full reference information of the article.
