History & Systems Individual or Group Project

Overview

Note: If the class size is less than 10, this will be an individual presentation. If more than 10, you will have the option of doing this in dyads or individually.

Each student will participate in one group or individual presentation. The purpose of this assignment is to have students participate in a deeper analysis of one particular philosophical and/or psychological theory. This is not intended to be an overly intensive project. Rather, it is one that should involve critical thought about a theory. Depending upon class size, there may be one person giving the presentation or a group of people.

Project Requirements

  1. Presentation should include a Power Point presentation of 10-20 minutes in length. Presentations should NOT exceed 20-minutes and may be subject to point deductions if they go over the time limit. With the large number of students in this class, we have a limited amount of time to cover the topics. Please be sensitive to the time constraints in addition to focusing on developing a quality presentation.
  2. All students should participate in the development and presentation of the group project.
  3. Each presentations should clearly identify the theory being reviewed along with a very brief overview of the central tenets of the theory. You can assume that audience has some familiarity with the theory. In addition, four issues should be briefly address:
    • What is the implicit epistemology of this theory? Or how does this theory approach knowing?
    • What are the core values of this theory?
    • What does this theory view as The Good Life?
    • What does this theory believe about how people change (if it believes change is really possible)?
  4. Power Point presentations should be made available on the Scholar 360 in the class community prior to class on the night you are to present. Be sure to include the names of all the presenters on the first slide of the power point presentation.
